World War II in the History of Your Family

World War II and the Great Patriotic War left a great imprint on the history of the world. Every family has its own heroes who defended the homeland.

At the right top of the picture you can see my maternal great grandfather Dvoryantsev Vasily Dmitrievitch. He was born in 1911 and all his life he lived in Sormovo. To be honest, I do not know a lot about him but, as my mom told me, he was a smart, strong and kind person.

He was a senior cook in a rifle division. I also found some information where the division commander wrote about him that despite the hard times and shelling, Vasily Dmitrievitch did his job on time, fed the soldiers with hot food and always raised their spirits.

He reached Berlin. And at the end of the war he received two awards — The Order of the Red Star and The Medal “For the Victory Over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945”.

At this picture you can see my paternal great grandfather Efremov Egor Ivanovich. He was born in 1921 in the Gorky Region in the Tanayka village that now does not exist.

Unfortunately, we do not have any information about his military position but I found the information about his award — The Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd class.

I am really sad about the fact that I do not have the whole information about my relatives. But I am really grateful for the existence of this site: Память народа::Подлинные документы о Второй Мировой войне (pamyat-naroda.ru)

If it weren’t for this site, I wouldn’t even know about my great grandfathers’ awards. Also, I am glad that in our family archive there are old photos, thanks to which I, my children and future generations will know the heroes of the war and not only.
