What if I were an immigrant seeking a new life in the “Land of Opportunity”?

Hello, everyone. I want to share my thoughts with you. My name is Lee DoYun, I come from South Korea, and I cannot even explain my inner feelings about coming to the United States!

Coming from a poor family, I never knew what good food was. Our daily diet consisted exclusively of rice and some vegetables; we almost never saw meat. Moreover, we worked a lot in the rice fields, all day in the open air, in the sun. However, despite the hard work, we had practically no money. Our country has not yet recovered from the war, and therefore there is devastation and famine everywhere.

I wish you knew how much I want to study! I want to get an education! When I look at the Statue of Liberty, my lungs fill with air, my mood rises, and the smile does not leave my face! Freedom! I will have the right! But will they accept me? How will people look at me? What will they think of me? Will I be able to achieve what I want?

But enough worries! You need to face your fears! As soon as I arrive in the USA, I will immediately open a shop so that there is something to live on for the first time, I will wander through the streets, because this is such an outlandish place! However, I have plans to go to college! It’s better to go to a medical one! I will become a nurse, and I will never suffer standing in the water in the rice fields again!
