Moviesš„°
While IĀ“m sick, Iāve decided to spend my time with benefit, and not just in social networks. Here are two movies that Iāve managed to watchš.
1. V.I.P. (Korean: ėøģ“ģģ“ķ¼), 2017
Directed by: Park Hoon-jung (Korean: ė°ķģ )
Genre: crime-action thriller
Plot: The son of a high-ranking North Korean official, Kwang-il, is suspected of committing serial rapes and murders of women around the world. To stop the killer, South Korea, North Korea and Interpol chase after him.
I wanted to watch this movie since 2018, I believe. Honestly, I didnāt have any idea about the plot of the movie, and I only wanted to watch it because of the main character, one of my favorite actors, Lee Jong-suk (Korean: ģ“ģ¢
ģ).
Right from the beginning of the movie I was thrilled, and I couldnāt predict the ending till the last minutes! I actually heard somewhere that one of the features of Korean cinematography is that you never know how it will end (only movies! TV series are differentš). And here is the same, I didnāt expect the ending at all! (I wonāt spoil anythingš)
I would like to note the actorsā performance ā Lee Jong-suk showed himself superbly in the role of a serial killer, he looked very organic in this role, although it seems to me that we cannot put handsome men in such rolesš! Other actors who played police officers and other authorities (Jang Dong-gun, Kim Myung-min and Park Hee-soon) also interacted organically with each other. I donāt know exactly how plausible their game is, and how it really happens in Korea, but anyway, I believed themš
Moreover, Peter Stormare, an American actor, played in a supporting role. I was surprised to see him in the movie! He is known for his role of Lucifer in āConstantineā but in the movie he was a CIA agentš very pretentious, I would say.
āļøBut I would like to warn you! Thereāre many scenes with blood, murders, and even torture, so if you want to watch this movie, be careful!
2. The Divine Fury (Korean: ģ¬ģ), 2019
Directed by: Kim Joo-hwan (Korean: ź¹ģ£¼ķ)
Genre: action horror
Plot: The movie tells the story of Yong-hoo, a martial arts champion who gains divine powers to fight against a powerful evil force. After a tragic childhood, which involved the deaths of his parents, Yong-hoo has harbored deep resentment towards the Almighty. He uses this anger to become a successful MMA fighter. After a bout in the United States, he develops a stigmata (in Roman Catholicism, are bodily wounds, scars and pain which appear in locations corresponding to the crucifixion wounds of Jesus Christ: the hands, wrists, and feet), which forces him to seek the help of a Father Ahn. The priest, who is an exorcist, sees potential in Yong-hoo after his wound defeated a demon. The two partner to battle demonic activity in Korea.
āļøFirst thing I should say ā the movie can insult the feelings of believers.
It is filled with mystical elements. Also, I really enjoyed the usage of the special effects, there werenāt many of them, but they were all in the right places.
Moreover, I was attracted by how the concept of faith is interpreted in this movie, what it means to believe, what hatred is, how it is connected with love, and how childhood trauma can change a personās life.
I was also surprised by the scenes with the rites of Satanismā(Iām not sure if it was Satanism as it was not mentioned exactly). The scenes were so believable and detailed, but at the same time a little funny because of the special effects, as they created fabulousness of what was happening.
Of course, I canāt help but mention the actorsā performance. Again, I wanted to watch this movie for a long time, since the main roles are played by my favorite actor Park Seo-joon (Korean: ė°ģģ¤) and another wonderful actor Woo Do-hwan (Korean: ģ°ėķ). Also, incredible and funny Choi Woo-shik (Korean: ģµģ°ģ) and just gorgeous Ahn Sung-ki (Korean: ģģ±źø°).
I think they did a great job with their roles, but I came up with some questions that still bother me. The themes and images touched upon in the movie may seem a bit controversial. Moreover, we donāt know how religious the actors themselves are and what they believe in. Was it difficult for them to perform these roles? How much, if any, did their faith hinder them in, if at all?
(I actually told my best friend about my thought and asked her these questions and she said, āI think they didnāt careā. Well, maybe š)
āļøI also want to note that this is a horror movie, so there are some really scary moments, so be careful if you want to watch this movie!
